Mola jutt film

The latest on Mola Jutt, the Pakistani film everyone's talking about

Since the trailer for Mola Jutt was released, it’s been an instant hit, garnering more than 1 million views on YouTube and making headlines everywhere from The Guardian to The Daily Mail. But who is this mysterious Mola Jutt? What sort of man would perform such an extraordinary feat? More importantly, what can we expect from the feature film? Here’s everything you need to know about Pakistan’s most daring stuntman, Mola Jutt.

What is Mola Jutt?

Sometimes a movie comes along that shakes up an industry. Such is life right now in Pakistan’s filmmaking scene. A new film by director Syed Noor has all but revolutionized how movies are made and marketed in Pakistan. Mola Jutt, a family drama-thriller involving hit men and missing women, has opened doors for other directors and actors to follow its lead—which is exactly what they’re doing.

When can we expect it?

The producers of Mola Jutt aren’t letting anything slip at all. The last update from them was that they were still shooting, and since then nothing has been announced. We can only hope it will come out before 2018 ends, but we’re going to go ahead and say 2019 is a more likely release date for now. Since there has been no word whatsoever from anyone involved in or working on it for months now, don’t expect to see it anytime soon.

Is it being shown in cinemas?

No. The directors of Mola Jutt released a statement saying that due to copyright issues and possible legal threats from a well-known Indian entertainer, they could not officially release their movie in cinemas. However, if you know someone with access to pirated copies or DVD/Blu-Ray copies (and are willing to break copyright laws), then it is available online and available for purchase!

Who's starring in it?

In a first for Pakistan, veteran Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah is starring in a local flick. Known for films such as Masoom and Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love (remember when we thought that was hot stuff?), he is returning to Pakistan after over 40 years to star alongside Pakistani actors Hareem Farooq and Ahmed Ali Akbar. The cast also features some new talent in Zara Noor Abbas and Waseem Abbas.

How was it received at the Lahore Film Festival?

If a big screening like LIFF wasn’t enough to turn heads, Mola Jutt has also been named Best Film at Pakistan’s biggest award show—the Lux Style Awards. Airing next week (March 21st), it would seem that all of Pakistan is waiting for it with bated breath. It’ll be interesting to see if audiences are finally ready for a Pakistani serial killer thriller that’s just as suspenseful as Hollywood.
